Privacy policy

The short version

Coop & Clutch does not have accounts, does not ask you to log in, and does not sell personal information. The only information you give us directly is what you type into the contact form. Beyond that, this site uses Google Analytics to count visits and passes an affiliate tag to Amazon when you click a buy link.

Information you give us

The contact form asks for a name, an email address, a subject and a message. We use those only to reply and to act on what you sent - a correction to a measurement, for example. The message arrives in an email inbox; it is not stored in a database on this site, and we do not add you to a mailing list, because we do not have one.

The form also carries an anti-spam mechanism: a hidden field bots tend to fill in, and a timestamp recording when the page loaded so that submissions completed in milliseconds can be rejected. Your IP address is used in memory to limit how many messages can be sent per hour and is not written to storage.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and which recommendations are clicked. It sets cookies and collects a truncated IP address, device and browser information, pages viewed and referring site. We use it in aggregate - we are looking at whether a page was useful, not at who you are.

One custom event is recorded: when you click a buy link, we log which product it was and which page you clicked it from. That is the only measurement we have of whether a recommendation was useful, since the retailer does not tell us which of our pages sent a visitor.

You can opt out with Google’s browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, or by blocking analytics in your browser or an extension. The site works normally with analytics blocked - nothing here depends on it.

Affiliate links

When you click a buy link, you pass through an address on this domain and are then forwarded to the retailer with an affiliate tag attached. The retailer - Amazon - may set its own cookies and applies its own privacy policy from that point on. We receive aggregate commission reports; we do not receive your name, address or payment details, and we never see what else you bought.

Cookies

• Analytics cookies, set by Google Analytics, to count visits and sessions.
• Retailer cookies, set by Amazon after you follow a buy link, under their policy rather than ours.

We set no advertising cookies of our own, run no ad network, and have no login, so there is no session cookie either.

Hosting and logs

This site is hosted on Vercel, which processes requests and keeps standard server logs including IP addresses for security and operational purposes. That processing is theirs rather than ours, under their infrastructure privacy terms.

Your choices

• Block or clear cookies in your browser at any time. The site works without them.
• Opt out of Google Analytics with the add-on linked above.
• Ask us to delete a message you sent through the contact form. Email us and we will remove it from the inbox.
• Do not click affiliate links if you would rather not pass a tag to the retailer.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent us something through the contact form, email us and we will delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update it here and change the effective date at the top. There is no mailing list to notify, which is itself a consequence of how little this site collects.
