About Coop & Clutch

A site about one narrow, checkable question: how many chickens does this coop actually hold?

Coop & Clutch started from a mismatch that anyone shopping for a chicken coop runs into within about ten minutes. The listings are titled with bird counts. The dimensions are right there in the same listing. Multiply them out and the two rarely agree, and the direction of the disagreement is always the same.

So this site does the multiplication, in public, on 25 coops, and prints both numbers side by side. That is the whole idea. Everything else here - predator-proofing, ventilation, bedding, siting - exists because they are the other decisions that a coop purchase forces on you, and because nothing else on this site would be much use if the coop turned out to be three sizes too small.

Who writes it

Scooter M., an enthusiast who is genuinely interested in this. Not a veterinarian, not a poultry scientist, and not somebody with a test barn. What I do is read the manuals, compile the published specifications, do the arithmetic, and cite where every figure came from. No lab coat.

That framing matters because the alternative would be to imply expertise nobody here has. Plenty of sites in this category lead with credentials or with a testing program. If we claimed either, you would have no way to check it - and this site is built entirely around claims you can check.

Coops we claim to have tested: none

We have not handled a single coop on this site. Everyone in this category says they tested twenty; we have not tested any, and we say so on every page that recommends something.

Here is what we did instead, and why it is worth more than a testing claim you cannot verify: every measurement is quoted from the manufacturer’s own published listing, with a link to it. Every calculation uses one published figure - the extension-service space guidance - and shows the division. Every source is named. You can reproduce any number on this site in about thirty seconds, which is not true of “in our testing.”

The full method, including what we do when a manufacturer publishes nothing usable, is on the methodology page.

What we will not do

  • Invent a price. Prices come from the live retailer listing or the button says check price.
  • Publish a review, a rating or a review count. There are none anywhere on this site, in the copy or in the structured data.
  • Estimate a measurement. Where a maker publishes nothing usable, our tables say not published.
  • Claim experience we do not have, or a credential nobody here holds.
  • Let a commission decide a ranking. The arithmetic decides it, and the arithmetic is printed.

How it is funded

Affiliate commission. Coop & Clutch is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, and we earn a commission on qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you. We link to coops we recommend against buying as readily as ones we recommend, because a site that only links what it likes is not much of a comparison. Full details on the affiliate disclosure page, and the standards we hold ourselves to are on the editorial policy page.

Corrections

If a figure here is wrong, we want to know, and specifically: a manufacturer changing a published dimension after we recorded it is a normal occurrence and we would rather hear about it from a reader than not at all. Send the listing link along with what you think is wrong and we will check it against the source. Contact us - info@coopandclutch.com reaches the same place.

The site in numbers

  • 55 content pages, every one of them written for this site.
  • 37 products with a real ASIN read from a live listing.
  • 25 coops with capacity recomputed from published dimensions.
  • Zero coops handled, zero ratings published, zero prices typed in by hand.
